NIAGARA FALLS: Historic decision for Evelyn Apartments
Staff Reports
Niagara Gazette
A historic landmark application for a 10th Street apartment building has won City Council approval.
After tabling the issue earlier this month, the council voted 4-0 on Monday to accept a recommendation from the city’s Historic Preservation Commission and bestow landmark status on Evelyn Apartments.
The apartment building, constructed in 1916, is located at 533 10th St., sandwiched between Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center’s ER1 emergency room and its Hamilton Mizer Primary Care Center.
Councilmembers originally tabled the designation to investigate the economic impact it would have on any future attempts to expand by the hospital.
Councilman Charles Walker, who works as the hospital’s community health advocate, abstained from the vote.
