2011 National Preservation Conference
Planning is underway for the 2011 National Preservation Conference to be held in Buffalo, October 18-22, 2011. An estimated 2000 preservationists, planners, architects and others from across the country and from Canada are expected to attend.
Preservation Buffalo Niagara, a National Trust Local Partner, will be the conference’s local preservation host and is working with the Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau to ensure that 2011 will be one of the best National Preservation Conferences ever held.

On July 7, almost 300 people attended a planning session facilitated by National Trust staff. Buffalo News Article

Next Steps All Comment Forms will be shared with National Trust staff and another Conference Planning Session will be held in the fall of 2010. Volunteer responses will be reviewed and committee chairs selected for various tasks (i.e. marketing, fundraising, community readiness and more). Committee chairs and others will form a steering committee. At appropriate times, committees will be assembled to begin their work.
Future Communications Communicating about conference planning will be done almost exclusively via email -- to receive such emails, you must be registered to assist with conference planning (see above).
Conference Co-chairs Catherine Schweitzer, National Trust Advisor for New York State, Chair of PBN and Executive Director of The Baird Foundation; Robert Skerker, CEO of Robinson Home Products, former Chair of Erie County’s Cultural Board, and community volunteer.

Background In 2005 the CVB started exploring the possibility of bringing the National Preservation Conference to Buffalo. This goal enabled preservation, civic, and foundation leaders to work together in a new way, culminating in a very successful dinner (June 2007) where 430 people welcomed former National Trust President, Dick Moe, to Buffalo. The conference selection was announced in November 2007.
Helping to secure the National Preservation Conference for Buffalo were three key foundations: The John R. Oishei Foundation, the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation and The Baird Foundation. Additional fundraising, volunteer support and in-kind contributions are still needed to make the conference a ‘wow’ experience for our Buffalo residents and visitors.
