Buffalo on Foot

November 18, 2011

The next best thing to taking guided walks with Buffalo Tours is to follow the tours found in this new publication.  Created by Visit Buffalo Niagara in time for the National Preservation Conference, Buffalo On Foot is a 70-page, full-color guide that provides tours for downtown Buffalo and other key locations. It’s 4”x 9” size allows it to fit in a purse or pocket.

Tours Found in Buffalo on Foot
Downtown Buffalo (two tours)
Buffalo Waterfront
Michigan Avenue Heritage Corridor
Allentown and Delaware
Elmwood Village
Museum District
Parkside
East Aurora

Each tour features a map and route, route mileage, time it will take to walk the tour, identification of what to see, and brief essays with photographs on featured historic structures.

While Visit Buffalo Niagara prepared this guide to serve visitors, everyone interested in this area’s heritage should grab a copy for themselves, their family and, of course, for their out of town guests. This guide can help all Buffalonians, post National Preservation Conference, continue to be good ambassadors for our city and region.

The guide is available free at the Visitor’s Center in the Market Arcade at 617 Main Street, Buffalo NY 14203. Short term parking is available on Washington Street.

Preservation Buffalo Niagara is pleased to congratulate the staff of VBN that worked on the project: Project director Ed Healy, project coordinator Peter Burakowski, and graphic designer Matt Steinberg.  Architectural historian Martin Wachadlo served as a consultant.  PBN/Buffalo Tours was happy to provide some assistance.   The Baird Foundation and the Phyllis Pierce Charitable Trust provided financial support.

Congratulations to all for this excellent resource on Buffalo's downtown, architecture, neighborhoods and historic places.
