Grain Elevators Featured

September 27, 2011

Concrete Central & Buffalo Tours bike tour

Buffalo’s iconic grain elevators, being featured during the National Preservation Conference, have also been spotlighted by a Buffalo New report. During the conference, the grain elevators will be toured by registrants on a boat ride up the Buffalo River and visited by bus as part of several Conference field sessions. The University of Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning will hold a reception inside a grain elevator for conference registrants and UB alumni. Also, Buffalo Tours will be offering a walking tour of the grain elevators on Saturday, October 22 and early in October CEPA Gallery will mount an exhibit, Showing the Grain.

On August 29, the Buffalo News published a feature story, When Grain was Golden, by reporter Jane Kwiatkowski that focused on some of the 10,000 laborers that worked in Buffalo’s grain industry between the 1850s to the 1950s. This link also includes aN 8-MINUTE video, The Grain Shovelers Last Scoop.
